Effective Governance of your Golf Club

Get the Structure of the Committee Right – a smaller Committee can be more effective in making decisions

Look at the tasks and responsibilities the Committee are required to carry out and make a list of them.

Create a skills Matrix to identify the skills required and match that to the skills held by Committee members

When advertising for new Committee members then include the skills that the Committee are looking to recruit

Keep your Committee to a manageable size and if you need other Committee members for special projects then create sub-committees.

Try to keep your Committee diverse by ensuring you have a wide-ranging demographic profile. It is much more effective to have Committee members from a variety of backgrounds. This in turn will give the members more confidence that their viewpoint is being represented.

When electing a new Committee, it is important that you cover all the skill sets required and if that is not possible then to offer training to new committee members

At the NGCAA we do offer training seminars to help you understand some of the legislation which impacts upon your Club. If you would like to attend one of these one day seminars, then please contact us for more information.
